Hey Poddy People,
I hope everyone is safe and healthy. If you consume news every day as I do, it gets very taxing and helpless. I just want to acknowledge this week’s heartbreaking news from Texas. There are plenty of podcast episodes out, but here’s an article from The Washington Post on how we can help.
Updates:
Welcome to the new subscribers! Welcome to the S* Show of a ride.
This week I had another dream I remembered. (This was the last one)It was yummy. I went to town on a Simpson’s sized donut. Sadly, no podcast recommendation came from it this time. Or did it.
B.J. Novak (Ryan from The Office) showed off the first trailer of his new movie. Vengeance. It’s a True Crime podcast investigation and comedy. #ThreatLevelMidnight2

New podcast trailers are added in the Coming Soon section.
Only two recommendations this week, but more in the Just Added section. I’m in the middle of some other work for GP that I need to get through!
On to my picks this week…
Podcast: The Gateway: Teal Swan
Genre: Cult
Publisher: Gizmodo
There’s a new TV documentary, The Deep End, that just came out on Freeform/Hulu last week about, Teal Swan, a controversial spiritual “cult” YouTube famous leader. Our GP Google searches started trending up and therefore the 2018 podcast from Gizmodo was being mentioned. The podcast reporter, Jennings Brown, developed and executive produced the TV documentary as well. It makes sense since he earned the trust of Teal from the podcast.
In the podcast, Jennings chats with followers(Teal Tribe) and goes to the actual retreat. I’m reserving my judgment on Teal, but it is fascinating. Hearing retreat followers screaming in the background and reliving the trauma in order to heal is shocking. Teal is famously controversial because of her practice that has followers visualizing death or suicidal thoughts. If you think you are suicidal, please call the Suicide Prevention Hotline.
Just like last week’s recommendation with Sympathy Pains and Dr. Phil, I am concurrently watching and listening to The Deep End and The Gateway.
The Gateway podcast is still relevant.
Samantha Vincenty • Oprah Daily
“Brown creates a riveting portrait of a magnetic person with an unsettling power of influence.”
Podcast: Batman Unburied
Genre: Fiction Drama
Publisher: DC, Spotify (Exclusive)
This is an unorthodox version of Batman, written by one of the co-writers of The Dark Knight, David S. Goyer. It’s also been number one on the GP charts for the last three weeks. Clearly, fans want to know more about it.
This incarnation has Batman as a medical doctor trying to solve Gotham’s murders, and in the first couple of episodes, it’s the Harvester. It’s dark and graphic. Batman is played by Winston Duke, M’Baku from Black Panther, and has a great deep voice on the mic, just like me. Or so I’ve been told. 😉
For me, any audio fiction podcast requires a minimum of two episodes to get used to a voice and story. No exception here and now I am into it. I am glad that the villain is someone else than the usual suspects like the Joker.
I would say this is a PG-13+ story.
Ka’eo “Kk" Kawa’a Jr • Comic Book Curious
“He(Winston Duke) lends a powerful yet vulnerable voice that creates a very relatable character with obvious layers to be explored.”
If you are looking for a lighter family-friendly version, there is Batman: The Audio Adventures from 2021.
