Podcast: Alphabet Boys
Genre: Government History
Publisher: Western Sound, iHeart
About: Alphabet Boys reveals the secret investigations of the FBI, CIA, DEA, ATF, and other alphabet agencies. Hosted by journalist Trevor Aaronson, this podcast exposes secret undercover recordings that the government never wanted you to hear, along with the entrapment schemes federal agents set up to target unsuspecting Americans. We explore cases that are both dangerous and absurd while asking this question: Are America’s top cops catching criminals -- or creating them?
We get lengthy introductions in the first episode and the backdrop of Denver being the hotspot of protests during the 2020 part of the pandemic. There is quite a bit of audio footage to listen to.

“Alphabet Boys is so explosive and important…the show is too good to pass up…”
Podcast: Stolen Hearts
Genre: True Crime
Publisher: Novel, Wondery
About: Sergeant Jill Evans is a small town cop in Wales with an impressive record in her job, and a less than impressive record in her love life. After three engagements, two divorces and one affair, she’s beginning to worry that love is only true in fairy tales. That is until she meets: Dean. He’s a wealthy beauty entrepreneur with his own range of toiletries. It’s all going so well for Jill and Dean, until Halloween night, when Dean disappears. And Sgt. Jill is left to pick up the pieces.
Kerry’s lightheartedness, and the storytelling production, interspersed with interviews, just feel comfortable. I just want to be on the couch, drink my tea, and just listen to this story unfold. Not sure about the peppy intro music though.
Patricia Nicol • The Times UK
“What distinguishes this six-episode co-production from Wondery and Novel is its knockabout tone, set by the narrator Kerry Godliman.”
Podcast: The Last Soviet
Genre: History
Publisher: iHeartPodcast Network, Kaleidoscope
About: Lance Bass, NSync Superstar and Russian trained astronaut, takes you on a wild ride into space. He tells the story of the last Soviet cosmonaut who is trapped on the world’s only space station, as the country he knows and loves collapses beneath him. It’s one man’s dream to go to space, his dedication to the country he thought he knew and 313 days spent orbiting the Earth. 313 days that changed our world. Plus, Lance’s own dream to go to space and the lengths he went to make it a reality.
I was pleasantly surprised at Lance’s (Frosted Tips) narration voice even though I’ve listened to his previous podcast. Another podcast today is nicely structured with interviews, storytelling, and archival audio for a history podcast.
Miranda Sawyer • The Guardian
“...excellent new podcast...The Last Soviet is impressive and interesting, with some lovely use of sound”
