Be my Valentine! ๐
Valentine's Day, rethinking news stories you grew up with, and exercise recovery
My neck. My back. ๐คซ
I hurt my lower back. Turns out Iโve been working out too much without stretching after. *Shrug
My downfall? Muscle strain. Solution? Listening to a podcast on fitness. My pain is your gain. Long story short, listen to your body. My recommendation comes later in the newsletter.
On to my picks this weekโฆ
Podcast: Why Wonโt You Date Me? with Nicole Byer
Publisher: Nicole Byer | Team COCO
Genre: Relationship
(Explicit)
Live. Laugh. Love.
Love. Live. Laugh? Whatever?
Regardless of your Valentineโs Day status, comedian Nicole Byerโs podcast on her singleness and relationships has some really funny and quirky moments, even for a guy like me.
"I've never felt less alone in struggling with being emotionally available in relationships, and I've never laughed out loud so hard at a podcast."
Her podcast has joined Conan OโBrienโs Team Coco network this January and her Conan episode was just as great and explicit as I thought it was going to be. Fair warning!
Listener review, Liz C. wrote, "This podcast is a must-listen for me every week, but I especially appreciated this conversation between two hilarious, gorgeous women about learning what you deserve in relationships.โ
Here is my favorite clip from the Conan episode.

Podcast: Youโre Wrong About
Publisher: Michael Hobbes & Sarah Marshall (Independent)
Genre: History with a bit of Society
(Sometimes explicit language)
Iโve been wanting to recommend this podcast because itโs actually on my repeat podcast listening list. It didnโt make the top 5 of 2020, but it was mentioned a few times across publications.
Every week Youโre Wrong About reconsiders a person or event that's been miscast in the public imagination.
Itโs pretty messed up how they occasionally crush what youโve grown up believing. I still canโt wrap my head around Koko the Gorilla episode on not really knowing sign language.
A great summary of the podcast from Sarah Griffin:
The show is incredibly well researched โ Hobbes and Marshall [Hosts] very seldom leave their subject matter, delving deeper rather than orbiting around it. They are analytical and curious and have done their homework โ they bring facts and discoveries to the listener in a way that feels exciting. This hybrid makes for a really compelling listen โ what feels like two interesting, educated people talking is really well composed journalism in disguise. The production is that lovely punk-rock two-people-talking-into-a-microphone format that so rarely delivers, but here feels intimate and scrappy.

I did imagine. While I was laying down of course. I scrolled through to look for a conversation on improving the end of my workouts. I didnโt stretch, warm-up, warm down, or anything. Something I needed to take more seriously. Even though I am not a professional athlete, *cough cough, listening to the episode with Shona Halson, helped remind me of post-workout activities. Stretching, yoga, and a recovery day being the main additions. I thought Ryanโs flow, clarity, and questions were clear in this episode. Looking forward to adding this to my consistent list of fitness podcasts.
Episode I needed to listen to:

Honorable Trending Topical Podcast: #FreeBritney
Podcast: Las Culturistas with Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang
Publisher: Big Money Players & iHeartRadio
Genre: Comedy, but this episode is more Entertainment News Discussion
Episode: "The Britney Episode" (w/ Matt & Bowen)
If you donโt know, now you know. Trending in entertainment this week is the NY Times Brtiney Spears documentary on FX/Hulu, โFraming Britney Spearsโ. Bowen Yang (current SNL member) and Matt Rogers (comedian) released a podcast episode discussing the episode. โFraming Britney Spearsโ documentary can be found on Hulu and FX. I have a critic review for this podcast, but since this is a more serious episode, it doesnโt fit properly. Thanks for the heads-up Liz C.!
Congrats!
