Silicon Valley TV show for Podcasts? NBA Finals & Tarantino's pod +Just Added!
Hey Poddy People,
I should’ve saved last week's doughnut dream for this week. National Doughnut Day is the 3rd of June.
If you aren’t familiar with my subject line quip today, see here.
Updates:
I pulled the stats of the most visited podcast pages from January 1st to May 31st, 2022 on Great Pods. Here are the top 11 podcasts so far.
Our critic buddy, Kev - Tea in the Sahara, went to the Podcast Show conference in London last week and he wrote about it here. Don’t forget to sub to his newsletter.
After our post-Reddit bump in April, I predicted that our website growth would either drop slightly or come out even in May unless there was another viral moment. I am happy to report that we actually grew 3% according to Google Analytics!
Quentin Tarantino is launching a podcast with his Pulp Fiction friend Roger Avary called The Video Archives. If you recall, he was on Conan’s podcast a few months back because he was in the same studio secretly recording his own. Read about it here.
On to my picks this week…
Podcast: The Co-Founder
Genre: Fiction
Publisher: Realm
Startups like Great Pods, listening to a light fiction drama about startups is sorta meta, right? The fact that I started to nitpick their fictional pitch for funding, tells me I need to chill. The last startup comedy I watched was Silicon Valley, and that was great. This sounds like the first fictional version in the podcast space. Let me know if I’m wrong. With two episodes released, the drama is on. H/T to Lauren for this rec.
Lauren Passell • Podcast The Newsletter
“This is absolutely more enjoyable than most scripted shows I’ve watched on TV.”
Podcast: The Diary of a CEO
Genre: Business Entrepreneurship
Publisher: Steven Bartlett
This podcast is creeping into my rotation. Maybe it’s Steven’s voice. He’s British, and you know the Brits always sound sophisticated. Daniel Pink’s episode re: the power of regrets was my gateway episode as he was making the rounds, but now I’ve explored a couple of others that include Diplo, and Craig David. You know Craig right? This guy. Steven and his team do the research and it shows. Going beyond what the guest is there to promote.
Helena Young • Startups.
“it’s a genuinely fascinating insight into the lives of today’s most exciting entrepreneurs”
💡 PodLight Spotlight Recommendation:
NBA Finals are starting with the Boston Celtics vs. the Golden State Warriors. Here are two podcasts to whet your appetite for destruction. One from a reporter on the ground and one from an active player on the court.
Podcast: Locked On Celtics Podcast
Genre: NBA, Sports
Publisher: John Karalis, Locked On Podcast Network
Jay Shifman • Jay Shifman Blog
“he takes the time to help listeners with less of a basketball IQ understand what exactly happened and WHY it was so impactful, which is simply exceptional.”
Podcast: The Draymond Green Show
Genre: NBA, Sports
Publisher: iHeartRadio, The Volume
Jake Greenberg • PodcastReview.org
“Draymond’s natural charisma translates well to interviewing, as he has incredible familiarity and chemistry with every guest he brings on his show.”
