Hey Poddy People,
I have a favor to ask the 50-60% of you that open up the email! Please please please, take this survey. It’s my first survey for newsletter improvement and I need to know. It’ll take probably 2 minutes. Email is optional when submitting, but if you do, maybe you’ll get a thank you surprise.
Add Your Podcast(s) to Great Pods: Email your podcast with links to reviews/lists etc. to hello@greatpods.co. Additionally, if you have a podcast coming out, we are still testing out the Coming Soon section so send that as well. Just make sure it’s on podcastindex.org first.
Podcast to TV/Movie Update: The Murdaugh Murders podcast is in development at UCP (Universal). Read more here.
Blog Update: I have a bunch of posts that miss the newsletter window. Check it out. Including 2021’s Elon Musk: The Evening Rocket podcast from Pushkin/BBC picking up interest.
Industry Update: The casual IG/TikTok/Youtube/Podcast favorite of mine, Therapy Gecko signed with SiriusXM Ads deal. I’ll be seeing his live show next Tuesday in LA.
Google Indexing Update: We are putting in the work and you can see the fruits of our labor:
Google Ads: Part of the startup journey is being asked by everyone, how do you make money? We don’t. Not yet at least. Do we have ideas? Yes. However, our primary goal is to drive web traffic. It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t learn early on. The team added the minimal display of ads to just test. We made a whopping $1 in the last 7 days.
On to my picks this week…
Podcast: Curious State
Genre: Society
Publisher: Doug Fraser, QuickAndDirtyTips.com
I had the opportunity to chat with host and creator, Doug Fraser, from Curious State during my weekly Twitter Spaces conversation this past Monday. The full unedited version is here. Trimming the fatty content, transcription services he uses, and spreadsheeting his projects to stay on track with his podcast were just some of the conversation that was had. Fun fact, Doug made the Solar podcast trailer for CurtCo. It was the #1 podcast page on Great Pods this past week.
About: Unexpected gems of knowledge are hidden all around us. Let’s dig them up, one offbeat question at a time.
The “What’s the point of regret?” episode is what I connected with the most. I had “Boldness” regret as guest expert Daniel Pink described. “Boldness regrets are about a chance that wasn't taken. Things like opportunities to study abroad or leaving a dead-end job, but for whatever reason, you chose to play it safe.” Not anymore with me! #GreatPods

“There’s nothing like the soft, reassuring voice of an NPR host to make you feel more intelligent, so Doug Fraser is perfect”
Podcast: Once Upon A Crescent: Muslim Kids Podcast
Genre: Kids & Family, Religious
Publisher: Mrs. Hashimi
With the end of Ramadan this Monday, there is going to be a lot of celebrating going on. This felt like the appropriate time to recommend this nice storytelling podcast that doesn’t really have a lot of actual religion in it. Are there Arabic names? Yes. Are there Islamic greetings? Yes. That’s about it! If you have a Muslim friend, colleague, or passerby make sure you say Eid Mubarak or Happy Eid on Monday and recommend this podcast to them! Oh, you can say it to me too.
As it is a month of charity as well, do me a favor, and donate to your favorite charity of choice.

“This podcast is sure to grab the attention of young listeners, while also touching the heart of adults.”
Honorable mention:
Podcast: The Spiritual Edge - Season: Becoming Muslim
Publisher: KALW Public Radio
In Becoming Muslim, we explore the motivations and challenges of converts, as they carve out a uniquely American path for being Muslim in the United States. Over seven episodes, we profile eight individuals from various cultural backgrounds. Each offers a different window into this diverse and complex religion. In a religion that’s often partitioned by nationality and culture, how do these new Muslims fit in?
💡 PodLight Spotlight Recommendation:
Podcast: Storybound
Genre: Literature
Publisher: The Podglomerate
It’s Independent Bookstore Day April 30th! If you are a reader, go and support your local bookstore. Shoutout to Powell's Books in Portland. In celebration, I'm recommending, Storybound, hosted by Jude Brewer. He interviews, well, more like converses, with authors regarding their books. He has just as much to say as the author and it’s good. Some episodes have the author readings excerpts as well. I listened to the Anna Sale (Death, Sex, & Money) and Daniel A. Olivas reading of "How to Date a Flying Mexican" episodes.
