Be Antiracist, More Reality TV, and Kacey Musgraves
Hey Poddy People!
Itβs been a fun week of listening and watching. By watching, I mean podcasts in the TV & Film industry. More on that in a second.
Website News: I noticed a spike to Blind Landing coming from Greece for a few weeks, but could not locate the source. Finally, through some research, Google Translate, and 6 Euros, I found the page. Inside Story (Greek publication) added the podcast as a part of a recommendation list and link to us. Nice!
TV News: More entertainment shows and movies are adding podcasts into their stories these days. A new Hulu comedy show starring Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short has the three of them investigate a murder in their building. So what is the natural first step? Start a true-crime podcast. Release date: August 31st.

In the upcoming Sex and the City reboot, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) is now a podcaster according to Page Six.
In King Kong vs. Godzilla, one of the characters is a conspiracy podcaster.
Am I missing any new ones this year?
Industry News: Ashley Carman from The Verge researched Joe Roganβs influence being cut by moving exclusively on Spotify. Read more.
On to my picks this weekβ¦
Podcast: Be Antiracist with Ibram X. Kendi
Genre: Society
Publisher: Pushkin & iHeart
Joining the Pushkin team of podcasts with Malcolm Gladwell (Pushkinβs Cofounder) is an antiracism scholar & bestselling author, Ibram X. Kendi. In episode 1, Kendi and Gladwell have an introductory chat which serves as a good primer for listeners on what to expect. I listened to two episodes, Black & Asian American Solidarity and Prison & Police Abolition, and there were some honest truths to be heard and listened to.

Point, CounterPoint
Podcast: The Keto Diet Podcast
Genre: Health
Publisher: Leanne Vogel (Independent)
I was adding some reviews to the website and came across this one. I decided to put it in the newsletter because there was an episode on Keto with the Maintenance Phase podcast and thought this could be a fun point, counterpoint recommendation.
With over 300 episodes so far on The Keto Diet Podcast, I went back to episode 1 to get her background and expertise. I do appreciate her updated show notes (description) because Leanne Vogel (host) lists her best episodes.
I listened to the Fasting and Calorie Counting w/ Dr. Jason Fung episode. It seemed pretty normal of a podcast episode with tips that are usually applied to a variety of diets Iβve read. Iβm not interested in Keto as a diet for myself, but it was good to learn a little more about it.
Sabrina UsanerΒ - Podcast Magazine
βThis podcast will appeal to beginners who want to explore the keto diet as well as for those have been following it for years.β
Podcast | Episode: Maintenance Phase on Keto (Explicit)
Genre: Health
Publisher: Aubrey Gordon, Michael Hobbes (Independent)
Counterpoint: The new podcast from Aubrey Gordon (Your Fat Friend) and Michael Hobbes (Youβre Wrong About) on debunking health fads. It flows just like the awesome Youβre Wrong About. The Keto episode does go through the history of the diet and ridiculous claims we often hear about. I found the last 20 minutes amusing around how podcasters, Tim Ferris and Joe Rogan, were influencers of the diet in the 2010s.

Podcast: Reality Gays: Trash TV and GayDD with Mattie and Poodle (Explicit)
Genre: TV & Film
Publisher: Jake Anthony, Matt Marr (Independent)
I met Matt (the redhead) on the last day of Podcast Movement and said hi. He introduced a morning panel on the main stage the day before. Upon meeting him, it turns out he had a USC facemask! So I had to listen to his podcast and found a review too.
Where Spectacle podcast is more of a dive into societyβs relation to reality tv, Reality Gays is a rewatch commentary. From the start, I was snickering during the 90 Day Fiance episodes because they have their own theme song! There are a lot of yβalls that I shouldβve started a counter. π€£

Honorable Mentionβ¦
Another Pushkin podcast had one of my favorite artists Kacey Musgraves. Kacey was making her press rounds this past Monday in anticipation of her upcoming album. On Dr. Maya Shankarβs podcast, A Slight Change Of Plans, she talks about her use of psychedelics and shares two song snippets from her new album. Worth it.
About: Dr. Maya Shankar is a cognitive scientist who studies how our minds work and how we change. Maya uncovers little-known personal stories and reflections from familiar names, like Hillary Clinton, Tiffany Haddish and Kacey Musgraves, and extraordinary stories from real-life inspirationsβ¦
You made it this far. I just want to pat myself on the back for sneaking in another Big Ed gif. Thatβs all.
Be safe, wear a mask, get vaxxed, and be kind!
