On to my picks this week…
Podcast: Sympathy Pains
Genre: True Crime, Society
Publisher: iHeart, Neon Hum Media
Sweet Bobby! I mean Sarah! Why do you have to be like that? Sarah Delashmit conned people for 20 years. Not just anyone, but morally good people and organizations. If you are looking to whet (writing this, I learned it’s not WET) your appetite after listening to Sweet Bobby, this is it. Except, we know the con artist from the beginning.
The first episode is a little slow, but it’s the last 10 minutes that hooked me. Laura Biel (Dr. Death, The Vaping Fix) is the host and keeps her narration straightforward. In the middle of episode 3, Dr. Phil’s name is dropped. I needed more information! So I googled Sarah Delashmit.
Look, I’m not one to promote Dr. Phil,
but podcast Episode 1 Bethany & Episode 3 Liz are in this TV episode. DRAMAAAAA! Yes. I watched it concurrently with episode 3 and there was a shocking tidbit that came from the podcast. I’m not giving that away. Definitely, a podcast worth listening to while cleaning the kitchen as I did.
Jessica Best • The Urban List
“...absurd real-life story that’s truly hard to believe. Insane.”
Podcast: Will Be Wild
Genre: News, Society
Publisher: Pineapple Street Studios
I generally ask myself if I personally have enough information already on the January 6th events. I think so. However, Will Be Wild has more than just the generalities we read in the articles. For example, the intelligence agency failings, studies done back in the Obama presidency then largely ignored afterward, and a son who reported his dad participating in Jan. 6th insurrection.
Hannah Verdier • The Guardian
“Hearing a teenager make the difficult decision to tip off the FBI about his father’s behaviour is particularly chilling.”
💡 PodLight Spotlight Recommendation:
Podcast: Flickers Podcast
Genre: Music, Spirituality
Publisher: Matthew Linder
This week, I had the opportunity to chat with the hosts of the Flickers Podcast, Matt Lindner and Krystal Roberts. You can hear the unedited version here.
Season 2 is about the spirituality of Lauryn Hill with the legendary “Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” Album. My one criticism is around the introductions of the interviewers. The editing/voice-over can be unclear and abrupt for that quick second. However, the content of the interviewers shines in exploring Lauryn Hill’s spiritual upbringing. It gives me “oh, I never thought of that” moments.
Lauren Passell • Podcast The Newsletter
“I don’t know how you could listen to it and not immediately turn on The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. That’s what I did.”
Lauren was right. Every episode, I play a song from Lauryn Hill before I hit the next episode.
