Hey Poddy People,
It’s Ramadan for me until May 2nd. One of my personal goals is to not be upset at Google SEO and you should know why in previous newsletters.🤣
Analytics update: Goal is 10-20%+ each month. We rose 5%. That’s still great. We are still running that Google SEO test and Seb made some adjustments a couple of weeks back that may have improved things.
Twitter Spaces Update: What’s cool about scheduling interviews ahead of time? I get to promote them here. After a month into my Twitter Spaces conversations and bringing the energy back into my speaking voice, I will be hosting Dallas Taylor from the Ambie Award winning Twenty Thousand Hertz live at 11 AM PDT. Set your reminder here.
More on this in the 💡 PODLIGHT (Spotlight) recommendation after the main break.
Industry News: “Sony Music Entertainment’s Global Podcast Division hired media and podcast veteran Serita Wesley, who will serve in the newly created role of head of U.S. entertainment podcasts.” Read more here.
Website Update: We added our first sharing tool. Where else, but to “Share on Twitter”. Thanks Chris for the addition, because sharing is caring. #BuildInPublic
On to my picks this week…
Podcast: The Allusionist
Genre: Language, Society
Publisher: Helen Zaltzman
^Radiolab’s Lulu Miller posted this last Friday. The thread garnered folks from Hrishikesh Hirway and more in this non-scientific thread. However, longtime podcaster Helen Zaltzman, The Allusionist podcast, actually had a 2019 episode on the word “Podcast” from her live show at PodCon that was pretty darn entertaining to listen to.
About The Allusionist: Adventures in language
That’s it. Simple premise. She picks a word and deep dives into it with expert guests.
Additional episodes I perused were the words Zero and Sorry. Listen to the “Podcast” episode here.

“The Allusionist is an utterly charming listen that never fails to put a smile on my face while exploring the intricacies (and idiosyncrasies) of the English language.”
Podcast: Fly on the Wall with Dana Carvey & David Spade
Genre: Comedy
Publisher: Cadence13
Another celebrity podcast you say? Coming right up. Fly on the Wall is a sort of SNL lookback with Dana and David. Get the late 1980s and 90s lowdown with other SNL Alum across the board.
The first guest? Chris Rock. Now, this episode was published well before the slap, January 12th, so don’t get your hopes on some juicy story on that. However, there was some real insight into Rock’s childhood trauma and the therapy that helped him to get through it, possibly why he didn’t physically retaliate.
One funny quote in the episode definitely raised my eyebrow: “I’m more famous than I’ve ever been.”
Chris, if you only knew what would happen to make you even MORE famous.
Risa Sarachan • Forbes
“The show is a love letter to ultimate SNL fans, but Carvey and Spades’ warmth and humor make it accessible for newbies as well.”
💡 PodLight Recommendation:
Podcast: Twenty Thousand Hertz
Genre: Sound-Music
Publisher: Dallas Taylor, DeFacto Sound
Twenty Thousand Hertz won this year for Best Production and Sound Design at this year’s Ambies and is now nominated for a Webby as well.
So many great episodes, but one, in particular, was top of mind. Pusha T’s teamed up with Arby to release a diss track against McDonald’s in late March. Pusha T claimed he wrote the entire “I’m lovin’ it” jingle back in 2016 and so it all resurfaced. TL;DR - He didn’t. The team at Twenty Thousand did a full episode last year on the McD’s jingle, I’m Lovin’ It, and they mentioned the Pusha T controversy. Prep for the live chat by listening to that episode and more! It’s a Certified Great Pod!
