Industry News: The New York Times is in talks to buy The Athletic to bolster their sports premium offerings. The Athletic has a sports podcast network under its belt. Read it here.
On to the picks this weekβ¦
Podcast: Tulsaβs Buried Past
Genre: History - Society
Publisher: ABC News
I only learned about the Tulsa Race Massacre in 2019 when reading about Juneteenth and other various Black American history stories. This Memorial Day weekend marks the 100th anniversary of the tragedy and itβs crazy to think that even Oklahomans didnβt really start learning about it until the 00s. ABC News released a 3 episode mini-series dives deeper into what we already know and new updates including the search for a mass grave.
I didnβt find a Critic review on this yet, but I did listen to all three episodes and it was worthy of my listening time. Timely, important, and honest.
Podcast: Add to Cart with Kulap Vilaysack & SuChin Pak
Genre: Conversational - Lifestyle
Publisher: Lemonada Media
AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) month is wrapping up. We are featuring the 2021 Webby Winner for Best Lifestyle podcast. I remember SuChin Pak during MTV News days, so I was nostalgic when I was listening to this podcast. There are moments in the podcast that can feel like self-discovery to therapy among friends. Now Iβm just waiting for that Jesse Camp podcast.
βAlways honest and often hilarious, the discussions are a βsubversive take on consumerismβ that will leave listeners questioning their own habits.β

Podcast: Consider This
Genre: Daily News
Publisher: NPR
This week also marked the one-year anniversary of George Floydβs Death. NPRβs Consider This episode reflects on the year that happened, the bill that still is going through the hallway in congress, and societyβs role today.
β...with all the rigor and polish you've come to expect from the public radio titan.β

New Podcast Released: The Turning - The Sisters Who Left
Genre: Society
Publisher: Rococo Punch | iHeart
Just released this week is a new podcast around Mother Teresaβs Missionaries of Charity. An inside look from the women who left with their stories told in this well-produced story. For Great Pods, I was excited to see some Critic reviews published by the release date like a movie/tv industry. Itβs one of our goals for the website and the industry.
βWhat makes βThe Turningβ unique is its focus on the internal life of the Missionaries of Charity. The former sisters describe an obsession with chastity so intense that any physical human contact or friendship was prohibited...β
