Hey Poddy People,
I’m here at Podcast Movement in Nashville! I’ll share next week what happened, what I did, and what we learned. If you jump on Twitter, you’ll see an occasional post on it.
Quick notes: I met my new podcast friends, @jenntrepeck and @CYS_Jay, whose podcasts I’ve mentioned in previous newletters. I met a lot of great creators and for me, obviously, chatting about Great Pods and what we do. I am writing this as Mark Cuban takes the stage for their new app, Fireside. A few Dad jokes were told. “What’s the best time for fish to go out? Tuna-ight." 🙄 More next week when I unpack from the trip.
This week is going to be a little loose on the picks. Onwards…
Podcast: Stuff The British Stole
Genre: History
Publisher: ABC Australia
I’ve recommended this podcast before. I decided to bring it back up because of our search data. Out of nowhere, for GP, this was our second most searched podcast of July. Why?
I went digging on social and search which led me to the long running Roman Mars podcast, 99% Invisible. They replayed an episode of Stuff the British Stole on their feed, thus increasing the search for the full pod. Cross-replay promotion eh?
Miranda Sawyer - The Guardian
“Fennell is immensely entertaining, his podcasts are always gripping and this is an excellent series that uses history, colonialism and art to examine where we are today. Recommended.”
Podcast: 99% Invisible
Genre: Design
Publisher: Roman Mars
The perfect segue! Since 2010 Roman Mars’ soothing voice has been a staple in the podcast biz with this excellent podcast. Recently, his network was acquired by Sirius XM.
About: Design is everywhere in our lives, perhaps most importantly in the places where we've just stopped noticing. 99% Invisible is a weekly exploration of the process and power of design and architecture.
Chloe Foussianes - Town & Country
“Host Roman Mars tells genuinely fascinating tales about how design impacts our lives, which deserve full, conscious attention…”
Honorable mentions: Last week I mentioned two new podcasts were being released. We will talk about the other one in next week’s newsletter.
Podcast: Forever Is A Long Time
Genre: Family Relationships
Publisher: Ian Coss (Independent)
Released today: Ian Coss, Producer/Editor of the Radiotopia-PRX podcast Blind Guy Travels, interviewed “every living member of his family who had ever been married had also gotten divorced.“ There are no current critical reviews, but would love to get your hot take on it!
Stay safe, stay real, get the vax, and wear a mask!
XOXO
Captain Ron
