Hey Poddy People,
Letās get this bread. (Outdated quote, but whatever.)
Updates:
Reminder: We are fundraising in the startup world. Do you know someone that would be a great investor/partner? Let me know!
San Diego Comic-Con wrapped up last weekend. A few podcasts were live recording. Helen Hong and J. Keith van Straaten had Denise Crosby (Star Trek: The Next Generation) on their live edition of Go Fact Yourself.
Newcomers with Nicole Byer and Lauren Lapkis also made their live podcast debut with the episode out now.
B.J. Novakās podcast noir movie is getting great reviews.
āThe shrewdness of Novakās approach in āVengeanceā lies in how he lampoons podcast tropes while simultaneously borrowing from them.ā ā Natalia Winkelman, Boston Globe
In late August, Iāll be moderating/interviewing Proud Stutter, Maya Chupkov, on stage at Podcast Movement in Dallas! Her second season starts this weekend.
A friend of GP, Tal Minear, is crowdfunding their new season of Someone Dies In The Elevator. Check it out!
We got the rejection email from last weekās accelerator interview. I definitely rolled my eyes at the āencouragingā email. In any case, Iām actually happy. It was good practice, I learned a little bit more, and moved on to things that have gained momentumāplenty of more to come.

On to my picks this weekā¦
Podcast: Back to the Beach with Kristin and Stephen
Genre: TV Rewatch
Publisher: Dear Media
Rewatch podcasts galore. This podcast is also the #1 pod in the land between Apple and Spotify apps. Two MTVās Laguna Beach reality series stars chat about the episode and the behind-the-scenes. I have not watched a single episode of Laguna Beach, but I can imagine it through Kristin Cavallari and Stephen Colletti's high school drama-filled retelling. After the first two episodes, they share salaries (shocking it was. $2,500 for season 1), reality realism, producer angles, and setups. A nice reminder of what I know, but you might be new to it. Long story short, they both feel a lot of cringe-watching their younger selves. That alone might be worth it.
I know friends would definitely love this pod.
Gina Wurtz ā¢ Screen Rant
āIt is good to see that Kristin has grown a lot since her time on Laguna Beach and understands that her anger towards Lauren was problematic when her boyfriend was the one at the center of it all.ā
Podcast: Pod meets World
Genre: TV Rewatch
Publisher: iHeart
Your double dose of rewatch pods.
Itās Friday night, and the mood is right. Gonna have some fun, show you how itās done, TGIF. Right up my alley is Boy Meets World rewatch pod with Sean (Rider), Topanga (Danielle), and Eric (Will). I am definitely speaking from my point of view, I love it. They start off strong with the guests, Russ (Dad), Mr. Feeney, and Minkus so far!
There might be a little bit of āyou kids were great repetitionā but I can let it slide because thereās are a lot more storytelling happening from the veterans. For example, Will totaled his first nice car, a BMW M3, and was late to a taping.
Side note: I watched the first episode of Boy Meets World. As an adult, it hits different and is actually really good. Who wouldāve thought?
Adreon Patterson ā¢ Cinema Blend
āā¦fans have been able to learn plenty of cool tidbits about the classic sitcom. I'm honestly just glad that the veteran performer(Feeny) is still here to tell his stories.ā
Now we need Perfect Strangers, Full House, Hanging with Mr. Cooper, Step by Step, Sister Sister, and of course Family Matters rewatch pods.
Podcast: Who shat on the floor at my wedding?
Genre: Comedy, Drama, maybe True Crime
Publisher: Who shat on the floor at my wedding?
This newsletter is definitely light-hearted this week. This podcast is just what I needed. I had to ask Lauren, how she came across it. She said it was from a trending chart on a podcast app.
Premise: Someone shat on the floor at this coupleās wedding. The couple goes to investigate with their wannabe investigator friend, they buy an Amazon-like lie detector and start interviewing their friends. Gold.
Thereās no specific time limit on the episodes which can range from 14 to 60 minutes. and itās also easy to listen to. Iām already on board with 4 episodes in.
Lauren Passell ā¢ Podcast The Newsletter
"...the second you start listening you realize itās an investigative non-fiction series, set on solving a mystery...If you werenāt listening to any of the hilarious details and one-liners, youād think you were listening to a podcast from a newsroom.
