Hey Party People,
Hopefully, you are moving, shaking, and staying safe. Nothing big to report back. We can get straight into the recommendations after the break. I heard Cinnamon Toast Crunch is on sale…

On to this week’s picks…
Podcast: Podcast But Outside
Publisher: Cole Hersch, Andrew Michaan (Independent)
Genre: Comedy Interview
Why didn’t I think of this? Interviewing people outside, on a podcast. Well, these two are much more interesting and funny. I’ll give them that.
About: A podcast, but outside. Featuring fascinating interviews with random strangers who happen to walk by.
“Overall, Podcast But Outside’s low-budget charm, sincere unpredictability, and laugh-inducing content keep me coming back every week…with this show’s perfect blend of heart, humour, and chaos.”
Madeleine Chan - The Peak - Nov 16, 2019
My hot take: There can sometimes be empty gaps before something funny happens, but there are also compelling chats too. It’s the chaos the critics mention that keeps it going. Hi Dr. Malcolm.
There is an episode where Andrew meets his new step-mom for the first time at his Dad’s wedding. They record the podcast from the venue itself where guests, including the waiter, get interviewed. Cole gets progressively drunk and does a solo heavy breathing one-minute monologue. It’s chaotic, compelling content I tell you!
Podcast: A Cup of Tea and a Chat with Allie & Bean
Publisher: Allie & Bean (Patreon premium)
Genre: Comedy Interview
In the news: Have you ever found shrimp tails in your cereal? No? Well, Topanga’s husband did. Jensen Karp, Danielle Fishel’s husband, was introduced to me on my former beloved morning radio show, Kevin ‘n Bean on KROQ. This week, he was trending for finding shrimp tails in his cereal. Full story in that Topanga link above. Promptly though, Allie and Bean (Former hosts of the Kevin ‘n Bean show), got him on their podcast to chat about the incident thus far. It felt good to have a comedy news story that reminded me of the morning show. Heck, I listened to it this morning. You most likely don’t subscribe to the podcast since it’s a premium podcast, so I’ve posted a clip from the interview on the Great Pods Instagram below.
“…their discussion and bits flow quite nicely as the duo definitely have an on-air chemistry with a lot of laughter, biting banter and plenty of self-deprecation in between the storytelling."
Kelli Skye Fadroski - Daily News - Oct 14, 2020
Honorable mention: If you are unable to listen, Jensen is on Ebro in the Morning podcast from Hot 97. Start at the 1 hour and 14-minute marker.
Podcast: George Ezra & Friends
Publisher: George Ezra
Genre: Interview
Over the. past 6+ months, I’ve added over 550 critic reviews and counting for Great Pods. I feel like it’s my duty to also share Critic reviews that may have a differing opinion of a podcast. It’s what makes reading reviews fun. One of my favorite additions was for the George Ezra & Friends podcast. George is a musician known for his song, Budapest.
I want to share this one-star review snippet from Catherine Nixey, a Times UK critic, on the George Ezra Podcast. I loved it. Her review had me intrigued that I had to listen to the podcast myself and confirm the rating.
“George Ezra and Friends, in which he interviews Elton John, Sam Smith and the like, shot to the top of the podcast charts. All of which might tempt you to tune in. Don’t. People are not downloading this for the quality of the chat. This podcast is full of words — far too many of ’em: episodes weigh in at 50-odd minutes, of which 45 could easily be cut.”
Catherine Nixey - The Times UK - May 18, 2018
Savage, Catherine! But my search to add reviews for this podcast did not end there as I found another, more welcoming review for George.
“Ezra is an enthusiastic, ebullient host, a puppy with a really deep voice, and has a knack for self-deprecation (“I’ll stop waffling!”). Episodes are unstructured. This will be music to the ears of nerds, though there’s enough to pique the casual listener.”
Phoebe Luckhurst - Evening Standard - Dec 7, 2018
And this is why I love reading Critic reviews. You find gems like these. Now I invite you to listen to the podcast and write a review on who was right: Catherine or Phoebe?
