On to my picks this week…
Podcast: B&H Photography Podcast
Publisher: B&H Photo & Video
Genre: Visual Arts
Black Lives Matter. It’s the ongoing racial inequality protests we all see, hear, and face. On the latest B&H (the photography and electronics shop) Photography Podcast, we got to hear from a photographer on the front lines of the protests from last year with his stories. A great listen and episode for photographers and non-photographers alike.
"This podcast is upbeat, with a lot of energy. It can be confusing sometimes who is talking, as the conversation is free-flowing. I love this style, and they do it well…"
Craig Hull - Expert Photography - Jan 1, 2018
I do agree that there is a lot of energy from the host, Allan Weitz.
Malike Sidibe, who was taking pictures during the Black Lives Matter protests year was written about in this article with Vanity Fair and his IG below.
Podcast: Brains On! en Español & Brains On! Science podcast for kids (English)
Publisher: American Public Media
Genre: Science
I’m excited to share this one. From what I’m reading, kids’ podcasts have been pretty good and worth it for adults too. Brains On! has simple subjects, not too technical, and short. You could say there’s Disney’s Bill Nye inspiration here.
I’m not the only one that thinks it’s for both kids and adults.
"It’s aimed at kids, but let’s face it, this sort of intel would smarten up some adults too…"
Fatherly Staff - Fatherly - Jan 15, 2021
"This science podcast is aimed at kids, though I'll be honest, I've learned plenty from it as well…"
Scott Gilbertson - Wired - Feb 10, 2020
Add this one to the list and the Spanish version was just released! More review snippets can be found here: https://greatpods.co/podcast/brains-on-science-podcast-for-kids (Our first share to our website!)
Podcast: The Apology Line
Publisher: Wondery
Genre: True Crime
A must-listen-to new podcast from Wondery’s True Crime team.
About: If you could call a number and say you’re sorry, and no one would know…what would you apologize for? For fifteen years, you could call a number in Manhattan and do just that. As thousands of callers flooded the line, confessing to everything from shoplifting to infidelity, drug dealing to murder, Mr. Apology realized he couldn’t just listen.
I listened to the first two episodes so far and while the narration can be a little monotonous, the phone calls are not.
“Brilliantly murky…”
Hannah J Davies - The Guardian - Jan 22, 2021
“A handful[of calls] are downright chilling…”
Fiona Sturges - Financial Times - Jan 24, 2021

Honorable mention: Planet Money
Episode: How Desi Invented Television (Desilu Productions)
I LOVE LUCY! This October marks the 70th anniversary of my favorite show, “I Love Lucy”. Planet Money did a 30-minute episode on how Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball literally inventing and changing the TV industry forever. Having known 80% of the information, I did learn a few new things about them and the production company.
Breaking News: If you’ve been hearing about the brick and mortar shop, Game Stop, and its stock skyrocketing out of nowhere in the last few days, well, you weren’t alone. Marketplace breaks down the information for the rest of us in the first few minutes of Wednesday afternoon’s show.
Stay safe and wear a mask!
XOXO
