Murdered Canadians, and Dating. +updates galore and just added!
Hey Poddy People!
Happy Passover! Happy Easter! Did you watch the latest episode of Succession?! Personally, I’m at the home stretch of fasting for Ramadan and now repeat-watching The Marvels teaser trailer…so let’s GO!
Updates:
K-Pop Dreaming Live Show: Last week I went to the live podcast discussion for LAist’s California Love: K-Pop Dreaming. I love live podcast shows and this was a great event with a post-event Korean Food Truck, swag, and a DJ. Secondly, the space at SCPR (Southern California Public Radio) - The Crawford Family Forum was sweet.
Relatable child of immigrant stories was shared with history lessons in line with the podcast.
I got two T-shirts from the event because I didn’t know which size would fit me. If you love K-Pop and wear a size medium, comment below and I’ll send it to you. First come first serve.

Kids and Family: Live From Mount Olympus is adding actor John Turturro to the cast for the new season launching April 18th.
Baby Shark is coming to podcasts, exclusively to Apple podcast premium. No freebies. Read more here.
This is an interesting device. Yoto, “the interactive audio platform for kids” has added APM (American Public Media) Studios kids podcasts to the platform. Read more here.
Speaking of all these family podcasts, launching April 17th is the new podcast: Is My Child A Monster? A Parenting Therapy Podcast. I can’t wait to passive-aggressively tell my friends how to raise their kids. Trailer here.
CBS News 48 Hours is releasing bonus episodes of Lori Vallow Daybell's trial for murdering her two children. The crazy thing for me is that she “asked not to be present for the afternoon portion of witness testimony” because she was “too fragile.” Like, ummm…NO WAY! Catch the latest on the 48 Hours feed.
Lastly, like many writers with Substacks, I started the Notes and Chat section. I’ll give it a try and hopefully, you find value in that. I may use those features to be more personal.
Just Added This Week (27) - Because there were a lot of new podcasts added this week, I decided not to list them all here. Instead, hit the link.
On to my picks this week…
Podcast: The No Good, Terribly Kind, Wonderful Lives and Tragic Deaths of Barry and Honey Sherman
Genre: True Crime
Publisher: CBC, Lionsgate Sound
About: News of the mysterious deaths of billionaire Canadian pharma giant Barry Sherman and his philanthropist wife Honey in December 2017 reverberated around the world. Five years later, with no arrests and little news from the police, their deaths remain shrouded in mystery and conspiracy theories, with too many lingering questions. Not just who killed them, but what kind of life do you have to live that when you’re found dead, there are multiple theories, including some involving your own family?
Of course, not knowing anything about this wealthy couple makes the story a little more shocking. One of the creepiest parts of this story is that Barry and Honey were propped up when they were murdered. Barry’s unfinished memoir is added as a layer of information intertwined with the news conferences between police and private investigators. This is the second podcast I can remember recently where the family hired a private investigator when the police failed to do their job. That other podcast was Tom Brown’s Body.
All episodes are out now.
Ximena Smith • Stuff NZ
“It’s a riveting story – featuring high-stakes pharma court battles, family politics that rival the Roys from Succession, a bizarre funeral and more – and Goldhar is a trustworthy host, guiding you through the craziness with authority and aplomb.”
Podcast: Bad Dates with Jameela Jamil
Genre: Comedy
Publisher: Smartless Media, Wondery
About: A panel of hilarious guests each share tales of their worst/craziest dates ever, then weighs in on everyone else's misfortune.
This is 100% NSFW R-Rated. Well, at least the first episode with Sean Hayes and Conan O’Brien as the guest. It’s definitely for your earbuds too. Thank god no one was around me. I was really hoping Conan had a personal story, but he shared a story of his trustee assistant, Sona. Regardless, the three episodes I listened they were raunchy and funny, so caution yourself.
Reiterating why I like professional reviews. We have two widely opposite ones. Both of them made me want to listen.
Lauren Passell • Podcast The Newsletter
“Yet it’s relatable and brought me back to the days I was young and stupid and doing any and all the wrong things for someone to like me.”
James Marriot • The Times UK
“Bad Dates has the air of a group of people stuck in the corner of a ghastly party effortfully trying to have a nice time in the face of adverse circumstances. There’s a lot of over-loud laughter.”
Podcast: Mallwalkin’
Genre: Comedy
Publisher: Pistol Shrimps Radio
About: Join Matt and Mark each episode as they walk a local mall and rate its retail flair, culinary offerings, and audio recording policy violation response time.
Silly. Irrelevant. Just fun. Matt Gourley (Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend) and his friend Mark McConville just observe, walk, and talk. No bells or whistles. But, speaking of Conan’s assistant and podcast co-host, Sona, she was a guest on an episode. She even had a return to do in Old Navy while recording. Eventually, they got busted by mall cops. Talk about multitasking.
Nicholas Quah • Vulture
“Why am I entranced by Mallwalkin’...Because, friends, the mall rules. It has my vote for Best Mall Podcast.”
