This is a terrible idea 💡
Daphne, Dumb people, and the buttons on your shirt +another spike in traffic!
Hey Poddy People!
I’m back on the west coast! Let’s go!
Updates:
We had another mini-viral moment. This was the last time. This time with the podcast Chameleon. Why? I had to investigate and Google Analytics could only tell me it was an email newsletter. I reached out to one of the new subscribers and they responded. The Navigator from the Dollar Flight Club travel site. Read it here. Thanks guys! The resulting spike:
I interviewed for a startup accelerator program this week. Boy, I was sweating. I’ll get used to this. #KeepMoving
Toys ‘R’ Us is making a holiday comeback in Macy’s this holiday season. Read here. It reminded me of the Spectacular Failures episode on it. Episode here.
The Bodega Boys, Desus & Mero, came to end. Noted by some social media fans, they really didn’t have a new episode of the podcast since November of 2021. #RIP
Quentin Tarantino’s The Video Archives podcast is out now and the first review is in. Listen here.
Love + Radio & Gumball signed an ad/distribution deal. This includes unlocking previous paywalled seasons. We just added reviews of the pod to the database. Listen here.
San Diego Comic-Con is back and this was spotted by my friend Andy:
Audible/DC’s Sandman II. You can check out the reviews here.
On to my picks this week…
Podcast: Hot Buttons
Genre: Fashion, Society
Publisher: Christina Binkley, Rachel Kibbe, Shilla Kim-Parker, Post Script Media
Fast Fashion. The environmental impact of the fashion industry. How are we as a society making it more sustainable? You’ll get opinions but you’ll also get an education on what is happening in the fashion industry. It’s an easy listen with digestible news. I caught up with the episode on plastics and recycling within the industry.

“...you can expect a dose of humor, a dash of real talk, and a little pop culture banter, too.”
Podcast: My Mother’s Murder
Genre: True Crime
Publisher: Tortoise
Podcast: Who Killed Daphne?
Genre: True Crime
Publisher: Wondery
Same subject, two different creators. Who killed Malta journalist, Daphne Caruana Galizia. In 2019 one of her sons, Tortoise (Sweet Bobby & Visible Women) reporter Paul Caruana Galizia, created his own investigative podcast. It’s genuine and you can hear him searching for the truth as well as the frustration of someone directly affected. In the first episode, Paul sets up the story by educating the listener on Malta’s political history.
This year, investigative report Stephen Grey and Wondery team up to share a little more information. The setup in the first episode a different. Daphne’s other reporter son, Matthew, was there when the car bomb went off. He describes the on-the-ground moments it happened and trying to stop a suspicious person from taking photos of the burning car. Paul is interviewed in this podcast as well.
It's fascinating alternating between both podcasts. My Mother’s Murder is only 4 episodes long. Who Killed Daphne? currently has 3 episodes released so far.
Nicola Spendlove • Discover Pods - My Mother’s Murder
“One of the stand-out features of this podcast when compared to other true crime series is the political and social element it brings to the table.”
Gerard O'Donovan • Telegraph UK - Who Killed Daphne?
“Grey’s journalistic skills really come into play are in illuminating the wider background to the case. Above all, Grey brings to life the staggering complexity of the “rat’s nest” of subterfuge and corruption the investigation encountered, then and still.”
Podcast: Dumb People With Terrible Ideas
Genre: Comedy, Commentary, Society
Publisher: Eric Gray
When podcaster/critic Jay added this review, he surfaced a podcast on my radar that is frustratingly amusing.
Jay pointed out the Nickleback episode. So I gave that a listen as well as the Madison Cawthorn. At the end of both episodes, I left scratching my head about how the population continues to do what they do.
Jay Shifman • Jay Shifman Blog
“The show is, at times, sophomoric, but in a truly wonderful way. And because Eric is a long-time radio host, his podcast voice is soothing and rich, like fine mahogany.”
I am jealous of Eric’s voice.
