Hey Poddy People,
Please forgive me, I had the week off walking and talking to podcast industry folks at Podcast Evolutions! You can follow the Great Pods Instagram for short snippets from the conference like the Spotify seafood boat and making podcasters dance to Spice Girls, otherwise, it will be edited fully for the Youtube channel. Welcome new subscribers and stay tuned.

Updates:
Thanks for letting me test the Substack āCross-Postā feature earlier this week and not unsubscribing. Fascinating to read that musicians, Tegan and Sara, had a post on podcasts that Sara is listening to. All of them listed are on Great Pods. ICYMI: Read it here.
The Ambie Award-winning, Podcast of the Year 2021, Nikki Boyer (Dying For Sex - must-listen emotional pod, Call Me Curious) launched a new network, Dying For Media, where they will highlight unreal stories. I met her and co-founder, Kevin at Podcast Evolutions. Excited about the podcasts and their partnership with Lemonada Media. Read more here.
Speaking of The Ambie Awards, it opened up the Podcast Evolutions conference last week. Bigger and better with host Larry Wilmore. I was on the red carpet and in the winnerās circle for quick interviews. Thanks Jenn (Salad with a Side of Fries) for the assist. Iāll have my write-up in the blog soon as I continue to download everything. I managed to get 98% of the people to Karaoke on camera. #TinyVictory Here is the list of winners.
Podcast Evolutions Conference updated post: Same as above.
Esther Perelās (Howās Work? & Where Should We Begin?) exclusivity ended with Spotify and is moving over to Vox Media. Whatās in it for you? Back in all the podcast apps. Read more here.
Are you a podcaster or in the podcast industry living in NYC. The Podcast Academy (Great Pods is a member) is hosting a meetup. RSVP here. Got a meetup outside of LA? Let me know.
Emmy Award-winning, Paul Giamatti gave audiences a sneak peek into his new podcast at the SXSW conference in Austin, TX. Listen to the trailer here.
LinkedIn has a podcast academy, mainly for business and employment. Something that is news to me. Here are the podcasts selected for their academy. I donāt know how one would apply to it yet.
Great Pods website update: Weāve incorporated and finally can show Google Ads again! This is great news as we continue to grow. My only request is to keep visiting the website!
LA Marathon is finally here this weekend. Wish me luck, Iāll need it.

On to my picks this weekā¦
Hopefully, youāve heard about the SVB (Silicon Valley Bank) fiasco in the last week. This thing came out of nowhere during the conference. As mentioned, we just incorporated and I was looking into opening a business account. SVB, a startup-friendly bank, was on the list. When I got back I needed an explainer of what the hell just happened.
Here are two to start with:
Podcast: Marketplace
Publisher: American Public Media, Marketplace
Genre: Business
About: Every weekday, host Kai Ryssdal helps you make sense of the dayās business and economic news ā no econ degree or finance background required. āMarketplaceā takes you beyond the numbers, bringing you context. Our team of reporters all over the world speak with CEOs, policymakers and regular people just trying to get by.
The long-running podcast with Kai and his team really gets to the basics and what it means for us regular folks and startups. In addition, past legislation and potentially new adjustments.
Hereās the timing for the episodes:
āHow Silicon Valley Bank failedā - First half of the episode on what happened.
āSilicon Valley Bank collapsed ā¦ now what?ā This is not 2008 and not a collapse, butā¦ And a distinction between bailout vs. rescue with a chat with regional banks.
āWhere does banking oversight go from here?ā Start at 5 minutes in. In addition to Federal oversight, there is information on what the states do. California and New York shut down SVB and Signature Bank when the run was occurring. Signature Bank was shut down for Crypto reasons.
I get nostalgic goosebumps when Kai said āThis is Marketplace.ā
Podcast: All-In with Chamath, Jason, Sacks & Friedberg
Genre: Business, Entrepreneurship
Publisher: Jason Calacanis
About: Industry veterans, degenerate gamblers & besties Chamath Palihapitiya, Jason Calacanis, David Sacks & David Friedberg cover all things economic, tech, political, social & poker.
Their episode on the crisis was informational from the four hosts and their relation to the startups. The first 15 minutes are good for all of us, but then they get into their trademark discussions on who is right and wrong. There are some gems in there. Itās also from last weekend so some of the conversations are already outdated because the Federal Reserve did take action.
Nitish Pahwa ā¢ Slate
āā¦interesting wrinkle is that All-Inās hosts are not at all on the same page. They often engage in some heated discourse of their ownā¦ā
About: A feminist lifestyle podcast on a mission to stay curious, build empathy and raise hell. Hosted by Cristen Conger.
I needed to know more about Cristen and her credentials for myself and for you:
āa former writer and blogger for HowStuffWorks and a contributing writer for Discovery Newsā¦She also started and co-hosted the popular Stuff Mom Never Told You podcastā¦ā (Source: HowStuffWorks.com)
Knowing that much makes it that much sweeter! The episode I listened to was about the hot injection drug, Ozempic, which is supposed to be for diabetic patients. I follow a celebrity or two that uses it, so itās top of mind. However, it is now being used by anyone seeking to lose weight and may not be a good thing. Cristen does a casually cool job of giving us the details and happening with a light tone. Many more episode subjects to choose from. To be honest, anyone can listen to this podcast.
Keelin ā¢ Mentally? A Magpie
āConger does a great job structuring episodes well, taking the interviews and splicing them into these easy-to-follow, almost āover coffeeā conversations about just about anything a woman may have questions about. This podcast is constantly filling me in on something I didnāt even realize I had a question about.ā
I encourage yāall to click through and read Keelinās critic review.
