Hi Poddy People!
Hope you election week in the U.S. is calm, cool, and collected. We didn’t get to see Harry Styles last weekend because he had the flu. Ugh. We are sad, but we’ll try again in January. This isn’t a Harry Styles fan newsletter, by the way, no need to unsubscribe. On that note, welcome to the new subscribers! Let’s get to it!

On to my picks this week…
Podcast: Bone Valley
Genre: True Crime
Publisher: Lava For Good, iHeart
About: In 1987, 18-year-old Michelle Schofield was found dead in a phosphate pit in Florida. Two years later, her husband Leo was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. Fifteen years later, previously unidentified fingerprints matched Jeremy Scott--a violent teenager who lived nearby. Jeremy has since confessed to Michelle’s murder. Yet Leo Schofield remains behind bars.
Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Gilbert King leads this in-depth podcast with producer and co-host Kelsey Decker that uncovers prosecutorial mishaps, tons of interviews, and confessions. What I like is the live audio of the interviews coupled with pre-interview feelings, then during interviews, a sidebar narration summary so we don’t need to listen to a full 30-minute conversation. This is a style I like since the Only Murders in the Building Podcast.
“I sleep with dead bodies every night”
The 9-episodes are now released for you to binge. Once you finish, head over to Reddit on November 16th, 12 PM Eastern Time for the Ask Me Anything here. Shoutout to Lava For Good for the immediate reply when asking for the link. It was hard to find.
The Crime Writers Squad • Crime Writers On
“We think it's the best true crime podcast we've heard in, like, forever. The team's investigation takes us in surprising directions as they work to get an innocent man out of prison. This is sure to be at the top of many Best of 2022 lists.”
Podcast: Wakanda Forever: The Official Black Panther Podcast
Genre: TV & Movies
Publisher: Marvel, Proximity Media
About: This podcast is an intimate look into the making of BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER, written and hosted by Ta-Nehisi Coates, featuring conversations with Ryan Coogler, Angela Bassett, Kevin Feige, Nate Moore, Dominique Thorne, Ludwig Göransson, and more.
So much hype and many feelings. Only one episode has been released so far in time for Black Panther’s release this weekend. Writer, Ta-Nehisi Coates, hosts this podcast with the first guest being director, Ryan Coogler. If you felt emotion during Black Panther and the passing of Chadwick Boseman, you’ll want to listen to this episode. The grief in Ryan’s voice talking about that year was another pausing moment. Non-spoiler, Ryan had finished the script and asked Chadwick a few weeks before his death if he wanted to read it. Chadwick refused, saying he’ll read It after the studios notes. 😭
This takes me back to my newsletter a few weeks ago with Anderson Cooper’s podcast. Read it here.
The rest of the series will be released in January 2023 to coincide with the 5th Anniversary of the original Black Panther movie.

About Episode The Morning After: A Midterm Breakdown: Of red ripples and blue walls. Host Kai Wright joins The Brian Lehrer Show to help digest election results. Why did Democrats defy predictions? And where does it leave the Republican Party? Other panelists include Alexis Grenell, columnist for The Nation and the cofounder of Pythia Public, and Charlie Sykes, founder and editor-at-large and host of a podcast at "The Bulwark," MSNBC contributor and author of How the Right Lost Its Mind (St. Martin's Press, 2017). The three help callers deconstruct the results and reflect on how the democratic process has held up this election.
U.S. Elections = heartburn. It’s a good episode to get that calm roundtable discussion the morning after this past Tuesday’s election. Since it’s episode publishing, votes are still being counted. You can get additional updates below.
