We talkin' about playoffs? π
Childcare $$$, Drama in the NBA, puff puff pass it on, and new site!
Hey Party People,
Well, this has been an exciting week! Website traffic went up a bit, we interviewed at the USC Marshall School of Business Incubator, had a team bonding sesh, and started to change the website design.
Website update: Website design is now in beta. Itβs live and itβs so satisfying from our old versions! Thanks, Brian for design iterations and Chris for implementation. Our inspiration (fonts and colors) came from a favorite artist of mine. Not going to say who.
Oh that USC interview
Incubator update: As a follow-up to the USC Incubator interview we had two weeks ago, long story short, we got in! If you are unfamiliar with start-up incubators - read about them here. Just know they will help us grow this idea further.
Starting next week we will be learning a lot while improving the site in the incubator. I would put something inspirational here, but we have reached a fun milestone here, so Iβm just going to enjoy it!
On to our picks this weekβ¦
Podcast: No One Is Coming To Save Us
Genre: Society
Publisher: Lemonada Media
One of the things about podcasts is actually hearing the other personβs perspective on the mic. I am not a parent, but come on, how is the child care industry so broken?! It left me more empathic to the cause.
About: Host Gloria Riviera, βCall it Like it Isβ Special Correspondent Kristen Bell, parents, and providers zoom in on Americaβs childcare crisis and the people crushed by it.
ββ¦it offers a sense of shared, sometimes tearful struggle.β

Podcast: The Vaping Fix
Genre: Business
Publisher: Wondery
I thought I would never mention Bing Search Engine. But here we are. I was noticing some differences in what folks were searching for there and against Google. This recommendation, The Vaping Fix, was searched more on Bing than Google for us when indexed. Was it an age thing? What it accidental? Either way, I went in listening.
Silicon Valley tech bros gone bad. I was not disappointed, nor bored.
About: Two young Silicon Valley entrepreneurs set out to rid the world of smoking with an incredible new product. The device stands to disrupt the tobacco industry and make them rich, until it falls into the wrong hands and lives are ruined.
Laura Beil of Dr. Death and Bad Batch returns with another gripping podcast packed with health-related scares.

Podcast: Death At The Wing
Genre: Sports & Politics
Publisher: Three Uncanny Four, HyperObject Industries
Adam Mckay (The Big Short, Anchorman, Will Ferrellβs writing buddy, and father of Pearl the landlord) is politically socially educated alongside his comedic roots. If you ever watch The Other Guys and remember the financial crisis with the end credits, you see it come out in his work. Adam loves the 80βs NBA and was deeply concerned with the politics and tragedy that took place in that era. My hot take from episode two is that history just repeats itself. The old clips he uses sound like they could be from today.
About: At the dawn of the 1980s, the world was moving faster, the media was growing bigger, and greed was finally good. For the NBA, it was a chance to finally step into the spotlight. This is the story of how basketball reflected a moment when Reaganβs America doubled down on some of its core values: selfishness, violence, and racism -- and the players who paid the price.
βThe overtly political nature of the podcast will probably raise a few eyebrows. But everything in a society is deeply, intimately connected to everything else. You simply canβt just stick to sports.β
