Epstein’s initial list of names is out. Now, you may have your choices of podcasts on the latest news, but you could check out the episodes of ABC Audio’s Truth and Lies: Epstein here.
If you were into the Vanderpumps and Sandoval drama, you’ll probably want to love or hate listen to iHeart’s Rachel goes Rogue which launches this Monday, the 8th.
Comedian, Jason Mantzoukas was on Kimmel and talked about the 13 years he, Paul Scheer, and June Diane Raphael have been creating How Did This Get Made?
My design buddy for Great Pods, Brian, recently lost his mom because of complications with cancer (f* cancer) and needs an assist to cover costs. If you can, please support the GoFundMe here.
On to my picks this week…
Podcast: One Song
Genre: Music
Publisher: SiriusXM
About: On each episode of ONE SONG, friends Diallo Riddle (Emmy-nominated star and creator of HBO Max’s South Side and IFC’s Sherman’s Showcase) and Blake "LUXXURY" Robin (Music Producer & TikTok creator) will hilariously break down ONE SONG from the pop music canon that you know - or need to know - but have never heard quite like this.
I know of Diallo via his guest appearances on HBO’s Silicon Valley as one of Gavin Belson’s lawyers. Luxxury Robin is a first for me. However, both of them made their way onto my screen via the algorithms of Instagram as they clipped their videos.
First things first, you should know what a music stem is. If you listen to Song Exploder, they use it there to break down the song and bring it all together.
Music stems (or ‘song stems’, or just good old-fashioned ‘stems’ – you get the idea!) are a type of audio file that breaks down a complete track into individual mixes. This allows you, as a creator, to control each of the particular mixes for your production. Stems tend to break down into four tracks, commonly including the melody, instruments, bass, and drums. - EpidemicSound.com
I was listening to Jimmy Jam on Janet Jackson’s Control album and Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit. Both episodes are enlightening, fun, and just plain cool. It’s one of those podcasts that makes you appreciate those albums and songs even more. As well as, blasting them in your headphones after the episode is done.
Laura Jane Standley • The Atlantic
"If the beloved Switched on Pop and Song Exploder had a baby, it would be One Song…"
For the Alternative Rock fans, a particular enlightened segment, if you rarely deep dive into music is that Smells Like Teen Spirit was co-produced by Butch Vig of Garbage fame! Of course, I was deep-diving during the episode.
If your a constant on social media, you’ll also know of a viral clip of Pharrell and Dave Grohl(drummer of Nirvana, lead in Foo Fighters) talk about how the initial drums were inspired by Funk. They discuss this as well.
Fun and fascinating.
Side Note: The Nirvana baby lawsuit is back on the table.
Hubhopper is a robust and super easy-to-use podcast hosting, distribution, and management platform. And right now they have a limited-time deal on their LTD plan (that’s right, pay once and use it forever!).

Podcast: Legacy
Genre: History
Publisher: Wondery, Goalhanger Podcasts
About: Afua Hirsch and Peter Frankopan tell the wild stories of some of the most extraordinary men and women ever to have lived – and ask whether they have the rep they deserve.
I’m prepping to watch Ridley Scott’s Napoleon when it comes out on streaming and the timing is perfect for the couple of episodes Legacy had for its launch. With that the first 4 episodes of Legacy are dedicated to Napoleon’s history; it was easy to get into if you know little about him.
Patricia Nicol • The Times UK
“It is a slightly iffy storytelling device that listeners to its maker Wondery’s British Scandal will recognise. Hirsch and Frankopan make a promising pairing but it all feels a tad insubstantial.”
Now we’re allowed to agree and disagree with the critics. I thought the storytelling was just fine and helped me understand Napoleon’s comeuppance. Along with hooking his family up with jobs. Albeit, running countries and territories. Hmmm, that sounds like the good old US of A. 😉
In any case, I’m now ready to criticize Ridley Scott’s inaccurate portrayal of Napoleon.
