I did not have this on my bingo card, but the press really picked up on The Witches of JK Rowling podcast that released the first two episodes last week. Oh boy. Check out the mixed reviews here. #Surprise

On to my picks this week:
Podcast: Last of Us
Genre: TV
Publisher: HBO
About: The official companion podcast for the new HBO Original series The Last of Us, based on the critically acclaimed video game of the same name. Each week, join Host Troy Baker (who played Joel in the video game) as he breaks down episodes of the TV series with co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. Together they’ll dive into key moments and reveal behind the scenes stories from the making of this action survival series starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.
I haven’t been this glued to the TV with the nation in a long time! Confession: Not even Game of Thrones. But Daddy Pascal is making waves and The Last of Us is so good that I am emotionally invested. I’ve never played the video game. Thankfully the behind-the-scenes podcast with Craig and Neil keeps you going until the next episode. I loved hearing about the Nick Offerman episode and the Wyoming episode.
Ximena Smith • Stuff NZ
"my favourite bits so far have been around details Mazin and Druckmann decided to drop from the original video game, and the thought-process behind why they chose to deviate from the source material. Baker, who voiced one of the video game’s main characters, helps flesh these tidbits out nicely."
Podcast: The Prince
Genre: News
Publisher: The Economist
About: Xi Jinping is the most powerful person in the world. But the real story of China's leader remains a mystery. The Economist's Sue-Lin Wong finds out how he rose to the top, and what it means for China—and the rest of the world—now that he has ripped up the rule book to stay in power, perhaps for the rest of his life.
Nominated for an Ambie award, The Prince gives you a better worldview and possible thought process of President Xi. Even more so the brief interviews with former party members that wanted to bring more democracy into the fold. After listening, I couldn’t sum it up better than Sarah.
Sarah Larson • New Yorker
“The Economist’s masterly eight-part biography of Xi Jinping...also functions as a cultural and political history of modern China, and is astonishing not just in its novelistic storytelling but in its sheer reportorial gumption.”
Podcast: Who The (Bleep) Did I Marry?
Genre: True Crime
Publisher: ID (Investigation Discovery “Discovery Channel”)
About: What if everything you knew about your partner was a lie? Who the Bleep Did I Marry? tells the true stories of people who thought they were happily married until they discovered a shocking secret about their spouse. From serial cheating to crime and even murder, Who The Bleep Did I Marry? features direct audio from ID’s hit television series, and will leave you wondering how the truths behind these scandalous spouses were kept hidden for so long.
I think I found my quick dopamine guilty pleasure go-to. Audio taken from the TV show and packaged nicely into podcast format, there are plenty of episodes to choose from. In the 22-minute episodes, these stories are perfectly open-and-shut cases with real-life interviews.
Funny enough, I’m going to a wedding this weekend…
Patricia-Ann Young • The Sunday Post
“These stories tend to go beyond the odd affair, and veer into the downright diabolical, so strap in for rocky ride through intrigue and betrayal. If you enjoyed Dirty John, this one is for you.”
Top 5 Weekly (Feb 20th-Feb 26th):
Stay safe, treat people with kindness, and if you have decent to nice weather, go enjoy it!
Listening with you,
Captain Ron
