πIt's Our Website Anniversary!π
+ Brothers comedy, Britney's Birthday, Harry Potter, Uptown Funk, & new adds
Hey Poddy People!
Happy Anniversary to the website! Itβs been one year (give or take the exact days) from the launch of our decently-made Great Pods site. The first version was made via Wix and I thought it had gusto. Well, that was until Seb, Chris, and Brian came to make a few welcomed changes. Hereβs a quick look back.
Within the last 24 hours, we made additional design upgrades. Centering objects, moving publisher info around, and removal of the red band to provide a more soothing visual experience. Hope you like it!

Industry News: Apple released their top podcasts of 2021 list and editorial picks. You can read them all here. The problem I have is with the phrase βworld-class editorsβ. Who? I am going to be saving my commentary for a blog post in case you donβt want to read it here. Meanwhile, there are actual people and teams like Lauren, Keelin, Kev, Bello Collective, and by extension Great Pods that you can actually get to know.
Contest News: If you are a podcast creator on the email list, Squadcast.fm has launched a scavenger hunt this month with over $5k in prizes to upgrade your setup. Why not? More info.
Twitter News: Arielle, EarBuds Podcast Collective, flipped the popular #Tweet100 campaign to a #Podcast30 campaign this month and I joined in. 30 days, 30 podcasts/episodes.
Lastly, Keelin did a live-tweeting sesh of a podcast last night. That was interesting!
On to my picks this weekβ¦
Podcast: My Brother, My Brother, & Me
Genre: Comedy
Publisher: The McElroys
I started down this path to listen to iHeartβs nominees leading up to the 2022 Awards show. Previously, it was Louder Than Riot under the βPodcast of the Yearβ nominations list. This week itβs long-running My Brother, My Brother, & Me from the βBest Comedy of the Yearβ list.
Actual siblings roasting each other. Iβm in. Time to bug my sister.
I started with episode one (April 12th, 2010!) and ended with episode 588. Major iterations on the production side, theme song, and overall banter with each other. Itβs fun to always check out the iterations a podcast has done to improve themselves, much like a startup *ahem. Like I mentioned above, I do enjoy the siblings roasting each other.
Cam Sherrill - Esquire
βIt's the most absurd advice show out there.β
About: For one-half to three-quarters of an hour every Monday, we tell people how to live their lives, because we're obviously doing such a great job of it so far.
Podcast: Behind The Wand - Stories From The Harry Potter Films
Genre: TV & Film
Publisher: MuggleNet
Donβt tell anyone. I still havenβt watched the last Harry Potter movie. Aack! I will now because I am prepping for the HP reunion on HBO Max on New Yearβs Day. Hollie Richardson from The Guardian surfaced this lovely podcast from Flick Miles, Hermoineβs body double in the films. She interviews the filmmaking crew that created Potter.
My choice of episode selection was around the editor, Richard Francis Bruce, that worked with director Christopher Columbus and legendary music composer John Williams to get the first film right. I was today years old when I found out that the UK version of Sorcerorβs Stone is actually called the Philosopherβs Stone and Hermoine meeting Harry for the first time on the train took five months to film.

Podcast: The FADER Uncovered
Genre: Music
Publisher: The FADER Magazine
An Instagram account I follow tipped me off to a clip of Pharrell on The FADER Uncovered podcast with Mark Ronson. Iβve heard a lot from Pharrell in other various podcast episodes so that was of no interest to me. However, I decided to scroll the catalog of episodes from Mark and ended up listening to the band HAIM. Mainly because I like them, itβs Hannukah, and they currently have an Indie movie out with Paul Thomas Anderson called Licorice Pizza. Soβ¦relevant.
My minor quip with Mark is that his voice is rather dry and monotone. But, the HAIM girls are so full of energy and can probably talk for hours that it makes up for it. The chat included the times they met, HAIMβs deli tours, and the friendship with Paul.
John Peterson - Ear Milk
"The charisma that Ronson has with his guests, oftentimes friends or former collaborators, is undeniableβ
Honorable mention:
Podcast: Toxic - The Britney Spears Story
Genre: Society, Documentary
Publisher: Witness Docs
Yβall, itβs Britneyβs 40th birthday!
Listen to the reaction of the hosts that were actually in the courtroom, their reactions, and outside with fans when the news broke.
Anna Leszkiewicz - New Statesman
βThey began Βattending court hearings, and, after a tip-off from a paralegal associated with the case, released an episode called β#FreeBritneyβ that galvanized the movement. Here, they chart the story from their perspective.β
