Hey Poddy People!
Social media has been abuzz this week thanks to two social media giants going at it. Threads app from Meta was released in competition with Twitter. Follow us!
I had a great birthday weekend, thanks for asking. A friend got his pilot license, so he took me on a 45-minute flight from Long Beach to Temecula. I was nervous the entire time.
Short round-up on this short week! Letโs go!!

Podcast: Into The Dirt
Genre: Business, True Crime
Publisher: Tortoise Media
About: Over three years in the making โ a story about truth, spies and the stories we tell ourselves. Rob Moore had a successful career in television until one day he ran out of ideas. He was offered a job in the shadowy world of corporate intelligence - he became a spy. Tasked with working undercover to extract information from an environmental campaign group, Rob Moore says he eventually became sympathetic to the campaignersโ aims. Our latest six-part podcast series explores the extraordinary story of private spy, Rob Moore.
As I started to listen, I thought this was about the asbestos industry. Here in the States, weโve been seeing commercials for decades on getting compensated due to Mesothelioma caused by asbestos. As the Financial Times podcast critic, Fiona Sturges, wrote, โI spent the first 10 or so minutes thinking this was a show about skulduggery in the asbestos industry.โ However, thatโs just the setting and moves toward the main character, Rob Moore. The relationships he built and destroyed as a double agent.

โ...another epic storyโฆTo quote another overused phrase, โtruth is stranger than fictionโ.โ
Podcast: The Retrievals
Genre: Medical, True Crime
Publisher: Serial, The New York Times
About: Dozens of women seeking to become mothers came to a fertility clinic at Yale. A (five-part) narrative series about the shocking events that unfolded there.
Itโs what you expect for a Serial-produced podcast. On a technical front, the narration and audio are clear. A system that failed and the women that it affected, but with a Serial investigation twist. Just like Into The Dirt, itโs more than what we think. The Retrievals is more than one employee stealing medical fentanyl and replacing it with saline. Itโs about the women and the fertility clinic system that gaslit them.

โhow they got away with it for as long as they did and how the women dealt with their actions...a particularly powerful one.

Podcast: Summer Camp: The Case of the Phantom Pooper
Genre: Comedy, True Crime
Publisher: The Sonar Network
About: Based on a true story, Summer Camp: The Case of the Phantom Pooper follows camp director Mookie as he struggles to solve a string of seriously smelly pranks. Join Mookie and his team on this whimsical caper, and find yourself transported to the best place on earth: summer camp.
This couldn't have come at a better time when Who Shat? went viral this past week. For me, comparisons are to be had. Summer Camp has cleaner audio and storytelling except when they get to a group of teenagers together and everyone is laughing and talking at the same time. One person at a time, please!
Who Shat? is more casual and feels like real-life comedy as we listen. Both are low-stakes and no one dies, so have at it.

"the creators of Summer Camp: The Case of the Phantom Pooper manage to craft a charming mix of nostalgia, humor, and unexpected intrigue."
