On to my picks this week…
Podcast: Intersections: Detroit
Genre: Society
Publisher: A Human Atlas
About: Detroit: A city of deep history, a people driven by resilience and hustle – experience the city through the diverse voices of its people, as chosen by a panel of their peers. Narrated by Jessica Care Moore, with original music by Efe Bes, Marcus Elliot & Brian Eno.
A sort of under-the-radar podcast that’s wonderfully produced, edited, and musically composed. The non-profit, A Human Atlas, says on its site that they curate the stories from different cities with “individuals who are championing and driving social impact in all its forms”. A video interview mentioned “people, place, and purpose.”
Enter Detroit.
True to the non-profit’s statement, each episode is hearing the stories of Detroiters making that social impact as opposed to the negative we as outsiders hear about. The social impact of a former gang member who didn’t know how to read or write into someone who went back to school works with kids that can’t read, and started Books Before Boxing. Exposing kids to engineering, mountain climbing, or music theory that they would not be able to experience.
Oh, the jazz music spread throughout episodes is pretty great too. Retraining my brain of the vibe of Detroit if ever again. Wonderful humanity.

Podcast: The Story of Woman
Genre: Women, Society
Publisher: Anna Stoecklein
About: They say it’s a man’s world... so what does that mean for the rest of us? This podcast is on a mission to find out. The consequences of woman's exclusion from our world are so deeply embedded that they are all but impossible to see... unless you are looking. Featuring interviews with those who explore our world through the female gaze, The Story of Woman looks at everything from the economy, healthcare, gender roles, and more. Each episode dives deep into where we are, how we got here, and what still needs to be changed in order to (finally) rewrite the story of mankind to become the story of humankind.
Just like Natasha, I met Anna at The Podcast Show as well learning about her podcast which was also reviewed!
I dropped in to listen to the Hilary Clinton episode and Lindsey Vohn. Good to listen to Lindsey as she grew up, inspired by Picabo Street, serving and empowering little girls and women. Meanwhile having a mentorship from Billie Jean King to be the best and improve one’s game. Granted, we common folk don’t have that level of connection to Billie Jean, but it spoke to the importance of mentorship.
Anna asks, “What ways have you changed the game?” (Paraphrasing) Mindset.
There’s a longer answer here in the episode, so you’ll have to listen for that.

“It’s with a deep sigh that host Anna Stoecklein points out that the majority of top podcast hosts are men, but she’s here to drive change…she’s in good company.”
Video up next week.
Podcast: The Louis Theroux Podcast
Genre: Interview
Publisher: Spotify
About: Join Louis Theroux as he embarks on a series of in-depth and freewheeling conversations with a curated collection of fascinating figures from across the globe.
Louis is great, but for a hot second, I was distracted by the quality of the mics. Craig David’s voice, mic, and echo dampening are pretty good. Louis still has a room echo which was similar to his lockdown podcast Grounded. I’m nitpicking here.
Anyway, the celebrity guests can talk, so it’s nice. Louis is pushing for something deeper, but he isn’t pulling the information. There is a disarming ability that the guest eventually shares those stories. Louis could read some articles, and they would riff from that topic, like Craig David’s imposter syndrome. Shania Twain and Craid David are the first two episodes.
